There are certain weddings where the flowers and the setting seem to have been growing toward each other all season, and Hannah and Panayi's June wedding at the Delaware Botanic Gardens was one of them. They married on the longest kind of summer day, the sort where the meadow is at its fullest and the light stretches on well past dinner!
Hannah came to us wanting something that felt gathered rather than arranged, full of movement, in a palette of soft blue, peach, and coral with just enough yellow to keep it from feeling too sweet. That's the kind of direction we love, because it's exactly what our fields are doing in late June.
Hannah's Bouquet
We built Hannah's bouquet loose and airy, with tall blue delphinium reaching up out of a base of garden roses, ranunculus, dahlias, and snapdragons and cosmos to soften the edges. A single sunflower tucked low gave it that touch of summer warmth she was after. We finished it with a wide dusty blue silk ribbon left long, so it moved with her all afternoon.
Her bridesmaids carried smaller versions in the same palette, a little more concentrated in the peach and pink tones so they'd read clearly against their blue dresses, and the guys wore boutonnieres of coral garden rose with a bit of greenery and a wisp of blue.
Reception tables you can actually talk across
Inside, the tables were where we had the most fun. We alternated low garden-style centerpieces in white compotes with living potted arrangements, so the room had a mix of heights and textures without anything blocking a conversation across the table. Bud vases went out on the cocktail tables and the seating chart display, small enough to feel like something you'd pick up on a walk and set in a jar.
Blue hydrangea in woven urns anchored the entryway, and we tucked an arrangement into the fireplace so that corner of the room didn't go empty.
A meadow at the base of the cake
The cake got a meadow of its own, a low sweep of dahlias, ranunculus, delphinium, and sweet peas spilling out onto the table, which is one of our favorite ways to dress a simple white cake without touching the cake at all.
The stems for details
Hannah had us make up a few stems for the details her photographer was styling that morning, the vow books, the rings, the invitation suite, and those little moments always end up being some of our favorite frames from the whole day. It costs almost nothing to add a handful of blooms for detail shots, and it ties the photos together in a way you notice later.
