Frequently Asked Questions
General Planning
Is it cheaper to do your own wedding flowers?
Yes, DIY wedding flowers can be significantly cheaper than full-service design – often saving 50% or more – but they require time, effort, and basic floral skills.
When should I order flowers?
Putting in your order as well in advance as possible is ideal. While we are not able to give you confirmation of the exact blooms until 1-2 weeks before your wedding (as Mother Nature can be a tricky boss!), the earlier we receive your order, the better we can plan to allocate flowers specifically for your wedding. Your pick-up or delivery should be scheduled 2-3 days before your wedding.
What types of flowers are best for DIY weddings?
Generally, most flowers that we grow at our farm will work well for DIY weddings. While we do not guarantee specific flowers, we encourage you to check out our seasonal flower guide to see what would likely be in bloom during your wedding season.
How many flowers do I need?
There is no one-size-fits-all for weddings – each one is as unique as the bride and groom! However, we have a great overall guide that can help you plan the quantities needed for each piece of your wedding florals here.
Flower Preparation & Assembly
How long before the wedding should I make the arrangements?
- Bouquets & boutonnieres: 1–2 days before
- Centerpieces & decor: 2–3 days before
Store everything in a cool, dark place or refrigerator (without fruit).
Do I need special tools or supplies?
Yes, you’ll need:
- Floral shears
- Floral tape & wire
- Flower food
- Buckets for hydrating
- Ribbon or twine
- Zip ties (for large installations)
- Floral foam (for centerpieces)
How do I keep the flowers fresh before the wedding?
Start practicing a few months out. Watch tutorials or take a workshop. Stick to simple designs and manageable arrangements. If you are intimidated by DIY and tackling arrangements yourself, we are here to help! Check out our Seasonal A La Carte menu or our Full Service Florals.
Design & Style
What if I've never arranged flowers before?
Start practicing a few months out. Watch tutorials or take a workshop. Stick to simple designs and manageable arrangements. If you are intimidated by DIY and tackling arrangements yourself, we are here to help! Check out our Seasonal A La Carte menu or our Full Service Florals.
What style is easiest for beginners?
Smaller, posy-style bouquets and rustic centerpieces in mason jars or vases are easier to arrange than tightly bound formal styles or asymmetrical garden styles.
How do I choose a color palette?
We recommend looking to the seasons as your color palette guide. While we do not guarantee specific colors or flowers, we will certainly do our best to accommodate your preferred colors. If you would like to include flowers in color palettes outside of our seasonal offerings, we may need to special order certain flowers, which will likely change the cost of your DIY flowers.
Troubleshooting & Tips
What's the biggest challenge with DIY flowers?
Timing and stress. Flowers are perishable, so logistics can be tricky during wedding week. Having help and a backup plan is key!
Should I do it all myself?
Ideally, no. You will have a lot to manage during the week leading up to your wedding. Recruit a few reliable friends or family members to help. Assign roles and do a dry run in advance!
